I feel like I've done this a lot with different things, just doing the same thing over and over. It's like I forget that I'm allowed to try new things or do things differently when I'm in the moment, despite not feeling like what I'm doing is working. I just had to reevaluate this with the way I was responding to my toddler pushing boundaries, and I'm already feeling better about the adjustments I've made.

I totally get that! And I love that you are noticing it and willing to take a step back to reevaluate how you want to move forward. Flexibility is so important in this realm and can feel like the hardest thing to cultivate.

For me, I find that I think I’m right and the child should just do what I want them to do when I’m caught in those patterns. I also don’t always want to do the work of finding the deeper root (although time has shown that it’s always worth it). I’m wondering what your experience/thoughts are for yourself?

Oh, same. 100% I just fall back into the mindset my parents and the other adults around me always had that the child is the one who's being unreasonable, and also even when I can acknowledge that's not the case (which is where I thankfully always end up upon reflection) it often just feels like too much work to find the underlying need, so I put it off despite knowing better.

The best ways I know of to keep kids from getting sick in the first weeks back at school are community efforts: masking and better air filtration. If the school is open to it, a DIY corsi-rosenthal box in the classroom can help improve air quality and filter out germs, which helps everyone lower their risk of getting sick. Masking is much harder with kids, but I consistently mask in public and the only times I've been sick since 2020 are when my family members brought something home.

I had to Google what a corsi-rosenthal box is! It’s an interesting contraption. I’m not sure his kindy room would have space for one, and kids love to play with fans 😂 I can see how it would help take out some of the germs from the air though. It makes me wonder how it could be adapted to work in a room full of small children 🤔
